Northwest Rapid Transit

About the Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) consortium

About Sydney Metro Northwest

The $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest is the first stage of Sydney Metro – Australia’s biggest public transport project. The project includes 15km of tunnels between Bella Vista and Epping, a 4km skytrain viaduct, and conversion of the existing Epping to Chatswood rail line to metro status.

About the Northwest Rapid Transit (NRT) consortium

The Operations Trains and Systems (OTS) Public Private Partnership contract was awarded to the Northwest Rapid Transit consortium (NRT) in September 2014. NRT comprises: MTR Corporation, CPB Contractors, John Holland, and UGL. The OTS works involve:

  • Building eight new railway stations and 4,000 commuter car parking spaces
  • Delivering Sydney’s new generation of metro trains
  • Building and operating the Sydney Metro stabling and maintenance facility
  • Installing 23 kilometres of new track and rail systems
  • Converting the existing 13 kilometre Epping to Chatswood line to metro status
  • Operating and maintaining Sydney Metro Northwest for 15 years

Why is NRT involved in the School?

This means demonstrating across the project that the new infrastructure is at the forefront of best practice, delivering environmental, social and economic improvements.
Sustainability is integrated across the OTS contract and NRT is committed to working with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve sustainability objectives and targets.
NRT’s involvement with the School means their supply chain can access the School’s comprehensive online learning environment. Providing access to the School’s wide range of freely-available e-learning modules means NRT can support its construction and infrastructure suppliers and sub-contractors to develop their sustainability knowledge and competence.

How will this help meet NRT requirements?

Organisations of all sizes are signing up to the School so they can grow the skills and knowledge of their people; make more informed, sustainable and cost-effective decisions; operate more efficiently and sustainably; and become more competitive in today’s market. Because the e-learning modules correspond directly to NRT’s contractual requirements, business will be better placed to understand what these requirements mean to them and NRT will be in a better position to meet the contractual requirements of the OTS works.
