About Northlink WA - Southern Section
John Holland is delivering the NorthLink WA – Southern Section: Guildford Road to Reid Highway construction works and is scheduled to start onsite in June 2016 with anticipated completion in January 2018. This is the first stage of NorthLink WA and forms part of the overall State and Federally funded $1.12 billion Northlink WA initiative.
Work includes constructing new interchanges at Collier Road and Morley Drive and a flyover at Benara Road. On completion, the realigned Tonkin Highway will provide a freeway-standard, free-flowing link with six lanes (three lanes in each direction) between Guildford Road and Reid Highway, and will have removed two of the State’s most dangerous intersections.
Road improvements will see fewer traffic lights resulting in improved traffic flow, minimising congestion on local roads and providing safer neighbourhoods and communities.
Project Sustainability Requirements
NorthLink WA is being evaluated by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA). ISCA is the peak industry body for advancing sustainability in Australia’s infrastructure. The organisation is evaluating the project’s sustainability credentials across design, construction and operation using its Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) Tool. Implementing the ISCA strategy will ensure sustainability flows through all aspects of the initiative from the sustainable use of resources to meaningful community engagement enhancing places for people and improved outcomes for the broader Western Australian public.

Project Involvement with the School
To ensure sustainability is maintained as a high priority, John Holland requires the support of suppliers (including sub-contractors) to help deliver innovative, improved solutions for the NorthLink WA – Southern Section that increase value to the community. The School is a collaborative, not-for-profit, industry-led shared value initiative that helps build sustainability competency and competitiveness in the construction supply chain. The school provides John Holland’s suppliers involved with NorthLink WA, a range of practical and free educational resources which include e-learning training modules, case studies and tools that will provide a base understanding or reaffirm the principles of sustainability.
